AI will replace human coders in five years time?

Updated 2 years ago on July 07, 2023

In a recent interview with Peter Diamandis for the Moonshots and Mindsets podcast, Emad Mostak, founder and CEO of Stability AI, made a bold prediction, "In five years, there will be no programmers."

Mostak sees a future influenced by the transformative power of artificial intelligence and believes that AI will play an increasingly significant role in shaping our world.

Mostak's arguments are supported by GitHub data, according to which 41% of all code in existence today is generated by artificial intelligence.

Stability AI's open source image generator, Stable Diffusion, has surpassed cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum in popularity on GitHub in just three months. This statistic is a testament to the growing popularity and appeal of AI.

Stability AI is not content to be at the forefront of AI development. The company is pursuing ambitious projects in industries ranging from protein folding and DNA analysis to language models and audio-visual data processing.

Mostak envisions an "OS of society" - a comprehensive artificial intelligence infrastructure that can be personalized with individual characteristics and perspectives.

Looking to the future, Mostak predicts a revolution in communications and information access. He believes that within a year, AI models such as ChatGPT will be installed directly on our cell phones, eliminating the need for an Internet connection. This development could radically change the way we communicate and open the door to new possibilities.

While the progress of artificial intelligence raises concerns about its impact on society, Stability AI addresses these concerns head-on. By decentralizing AI and making it available to individuals and communities, the company aims to make AI technology work for people, not against them.

Mostak highlights Stability AI's commitment to transparency and democratization of access to AI, as evidenced by open access to large language models.

Job security is another area of concern with the rise of AI. However, Mostak takes an optimistic view, as does Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. He sees AI as a tool that enhances human potential, rather than a threat that displaces humans.

According to Mostak, by providing humans with valuable information, AI has the potential to change the world for the better.
