OpenAI's assistant API gets a new boost in development
Updated 5 months ago on July 10, 2024
The OpenAI Assistants API, which is used to create AI assistants, has been updated with faster and more advanced file searches, vector stores, and a new tool selection option.
OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research company, has updated its assistant API, adding a faster and more accurate file search tool, vector stores, and a tool selection option.
On April 17, OpenAI announced an update to its assistant API. The new file_search
tool can retrieve up to 10,000 files per assistant. It connects models with developer data to help build applications that match an organization or use case. The tool works with new vector storage objects for automated file parsing, partitioning, and embedding. New marker controls, tool selection options, and added support for model configuration parameters provide greater flexibility for individual use cases.
Developers can fine-tune models in the Assistants API, which also now supports data streaming. Several assistants for data streaming and polling have been added to the SDK for Node and Python.
The beta version of the Assistants API launched in November 2023 has been migrated to the new version with this update: OpenAI-Beta: assistants=v2
.
The Assistants API is designed to help developers create assistants for various program tasks. Assistants can call OpenAI models with specific instructions, access multiple tools in parallel, access persistent threads, and access files in various formats. A migration guide is available to migrate tool usage to the latest version of the Assistants API.
