AI company OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, has officially released API GPT-4 for all users participating in the API program. As part of the update, the company also released GPT 3.5, DALL-E, and Whisper. OpenAI also announced that it plans to drop old models in API Completions starting in early 2024.

OpenAI has announced that all paying customers will have access to GPT-4 starting today. The ChatGPT API was introduced in March, and this month the company released the first update for chat-based models. "We envision a future where chat-based models can support any use case. Today, we are announcing a plan to decommission older Completions API models and encourage users to migrate to the Chat Completions API," OpenAI wrote on its official blog.

Claiming that GPT-4 is the most functional model, OpenAI said that millions of developers have requested access to it since March this year. The company also said that the range of products using GPT-4 is expanding every day. "Today, all existing API developers with a history of successful payments can access the GPT-4 API with an 8K context," it said.

OpenAI said it plans to open access to new developers by the end of this month. Later, it will also begin raising speed limits based on compute availability. The company said it is granting access to the GPT-3.5 Turbo, DALL-E and Whisper APIs based on their stability and availability. OpenAI further said that the company is working to enable users to securely configure GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 Turbo. However, this feature will not be available until later this year.

The company also announced that it will now be moving to the Chat Completions API, which offers a more structured prompting interface. This will allow developers to create conversational experiences. The Chat Completions API was introduced in March and currently accounts for 97% of GPT OpenAI's API usage.
