Will ChatGPT replace developers? 6 experts share their opinions

Will ChatGPT replace programmers? Here's what experts think about it.

OpenAI's ChatGPT is a hot topic among Internet users, the reason is simple: it can do just about anything!

It was a record-breaking success at launch, with over 1 million registrations within a week of release!

ChatGPT is a large language model trained on huge amounts of text data that is incredibly good at understanding and responding to user queries. The artificial intelligence-based chatbot surprises people with its insane capabilities. It can write articles, compose emails, perform basic SEO tasks, solve math problems, write programs in different programming languages and find problems in existing code.

This makes it a smart AI assistant for various everyday tasks for professionals such as programmers. But on the other hand, many consider it a threat to their profession. One of the hottest topics on social media and internet forums these days is whether ChatGPT can replace developers?

We asked six experts to share their opinions on whether or not OpenAI's ChatGPT is a replacement for human developers/programmers. Here's what the experts think:

"Experienced developers don't need to worry about ChatGPT" - Sanjay Jethwa, CEO, Meetanshi

"Human developers will always be needed to complete the development process, no matter what.

ChatGPT can be a fast, efficient, and bug-proof tool for developing short code snippets. But if you look closely, it lacks the necessary creative problem-solving that is required to create a solution framework. A tool based on artificial intelligence can help you create blocks of code faster, but you will definitely need an experienced developer who can connect those blocks in an organized way to get the desired results.

Thus, ChatGPT or any other artificial intelligence tool will not replace human developers, but it can significantly improve their overall productivity.

With this in mind, there will certainly be a reduction in the number of developers needed to create solutions, which may affect junior level or less skilled developers. However, high-level development jobs will be more valued than ever."

"ChatGPT is an additional asset for developers, not a replacement," - Lucian Suski, CEO and co-founder of Surfer

"ChatGPT or natural language processing (NLP) technologies will not be able to replace developers anytime soon due to the lack of flexibility in handling different programming languages. NLP can help developers by automating routine tasks such as code refactoring, but cannot completely replace them because no machine can match the innovation and creativity of an experienced programmer in solving problems. In addition, software development requires debugging, which machines are currently incapable of.

In conclusion, developers are here to stay for the long haul, and ChatGPT or NLP will be used as an additional asset to speed up the development process."

"ChatGPT doesn't do well with complexity" - Rajesh Namase, co-founder and technology blogger at TechRT

"ChatGPT may have some advantages over developers, such as the ability to process data quickly and provide quick responses, but there are still many areas where human input is valuable or even necessary. Developers have invaluable experience and expertise when it comes to understanding user needs and building applications based on them. Even if in some cases ChatGPT performs tasks faster than developers, the complexity of coding software requires an understanding of the problem domain that only humans can provide.

The idea behind ChatGPT is that it can accept a natural language query from a user and generate a real-time response without the need for manual coding or development. It's an interesting concept, but some interesting challenges may arise when it is widely implemented. For example, how will ChatGPT handle complex tasks? How will it integrate with existing systems? Will its products be robust and secure enough to be used in production?

These questions have yet to be answered, but it is already clear that this artificial intelligence tool can change the work of developers, but not replace them completely."

"Developers are still needed for quality assurance" - William Hogsett, CEO of Seota Digital Marketing

"I don't believe that ChatGPT will completely replace developers. Given the pace of development of artificial intelligence, it will probably take over some tasks in the near future, but not all of them. First, while it will probably be able to generate better code in the future, it will still need developers to examine and verify the quality of the data it provides.

Also, because it's a language generator, it can't be truly innovative or creative - two very important skills for developers. Finally, even if ChatGPT ever learns to do everything a developer can do, it will still need developers to support and update it."

"No technology can replace creativity" - Jake Albion, owner of Albion Digital web studio

"No. It will make them more efficient, like many other tools used for coding, including GitHub Copilot or Emmet, and allow for faster solutions. That said, you would still need to be able to understand how things work.

Developers can focus on complex problems and reduce repetitive tasks, especially on platforms like WordPress. It will probably also widen the gap between developers and non-coders, but that won't happen for a while until it becomes more reliable for people who don't want to code and hack shortcuts for their sites. Ultimately this means that people who understand how to develop concepts, plans and software and websites (experts) will become more valuable and will be able to get paid more for their time.

The range of ways of working is expanding, creating more opportunities, not fewer, mainly because no technology can replace creativity and problem solving."

"AI won't steal your work, but a person using AI will" - Marcin Gwizdala, CTO, Tidio

"ChatGPT or AI in general will not replace developers. It will be done by whoever uses AI." In my opinion, this is the only correct answer when it comes to the fear that AI will steal jobs. However, those developers who take advantage of new technologies, adapt quickly, and learn to be skillful users of them are well positioned to grow their careers much faster than the rest of us.

Today's technological environment does not tolerate stagnation. A person can be sure that if he does not want to grow, he will be replaced by someone, perhaps less experienced but with more advanced means of artificial intelligence. We have to adapt to these conditions, whether we like it or not."

Will ChatGPT replace programmers? -In the opinion of these six experts, of course not.

Tools like ChatGPT can speed up the development process and reduce routine tasks for developers. This will allow professionals to spend more time on creative solutions and troubleshooting problems. Working together with such tools will allow professionals to increase their efficiency and empowerment.

In a nutshell, given the current state of affairs, we can say that ChatGPT is more of a human assistant than a human replacement.
